My Dear Mother:
Last
night
the White House Reception
for the Judiciary was held.
Mildred and I went and
were happy to see many
friends who were the "Robe
and wig." The President
and Mrs. Roosevelt both
looked well and cheerful.
We had a fire at the
Shoreham yesterday. It
was interesting to see how
such construction enables
the firefighters to confine
a fire to one room.
We like our new apartment
and are settling down
some- "settling" is the
right word!
We are watching the
action of the House of Reps.
today. They have the Veto
Message of the President
dissenting to the Walter-
Logan Bill. If 2/3 vote
to override the Veto
then the Senate will
get it. I intend to call
a quorum on the first
session after Christmas
if that happens.
I doubt that there are sufficient
number of supporters in the Senate
to give the required 2/3 majority,
but I have no doubt of my
duty to try.
