My Dear Mother:
I cannot leave this weekend
because we expect a session tomorrow.
It is fine weather here and I hope
you also are enjoying sunshine.
The weather map indicates it.
This morning I requested the
President to appoint an Emergency
Board to try to fix up the labor
disagreement on the Rutland
Railroad. A strike has been voted
for next Wednesday. I got
favorable action promptly
and cheerfully. This is
strictly between you and me
for the time being. Perhaps it
will be made public by the
White House. Courtesy requires
me not to give it publicity
first. I am pleased to
have this friendly consideration
of Vermonters needs.
Still debating the
Conference report on the
Transportation Bill.
