					<l>Senate Chamber</l>
					<l>Sept 26, 1940.</l>
					<l>My Dear Mother:</l>
					<l>I cannot leave this weekend</l>
					<l>because we expect a session tomorrow.</l>
					<l>It is fine weather here and I hope</l>
					<l>you also are enjoying sunshine.</l>
					<l>The weather map indicates it.</l>
					<l>This morning I requested the</l>
					<l>President to appoint an Emergency</l>
					<l>Board to try to fix up the labor</l>
					<l>disagreement on the Rutland</l>
					<l>Railroad.  A strike has been voted</l>
					<l>for next Wednesday.  I got</l>
					<l>favorable action promptly</l>
					<l>and cheerfully.  This is</l>
					<l>strictly between you and me</l>
				</lg>
			</p>

				<lg>
					<l>for the time being.  Perhaps it</l>
					<l>will be made public by the</l>
					<l>White House.  Courtesy requires</l>
					<l>me not to give it publicity</l>
					<l>first.  I am pleased to</l>
					<l>have this friendly consideration</l>
					<l>of Vermonters needs.</l>
					<l>Still debating the</l>
					<l>Conference report on the</l>
					<l>Transportation Bill.</l>
					<l>Best love,</l>
					<l>Warren</l>
