					<l>United States Senate</l>
					<l>Washington, D.C.</l>
					<l>Sept. 17, 1940.</l>
					<l>My Dear Mother:</l>
					<l>It was fine to visit with</l>
					<l>you Sunday.</l>
					<l>I had a perfectly comfortable</l>
					<l>flight to Washington that</l>
					<l>night.</l>
					<l>Since then I have been</l>
					<l>working in high gear to</l>
					<l>get ready to debate the</l>
					<l>question pending relating</l>
					<l>to immunity of State and</l>
					<l>Municipal bonds from</l>
					<l>Federal taxation.  It is a</l>

			<pb n='2'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>dangerous thing to act as</l>
					<l>if the Fed. government</l>
					<l>had supremacy in the</l>
					<l>field of taxation and</l>
					<l>could injure or destroy</l>
					<l>the necessary function</l>
					<l>of the states to finance</l>
					<l>their own government.</l>
					<l>I was impressed by</l>
					<l>your apparent good</l>
					<l>health and good cheer.</l>
					<l>Best love,</l>
					<l>Warren.</l>
					<l>As usual the beans spoke</l>
					<l>for themselves.  They are</l>
					<l>excellent.  Sadie will warm them</l>
					<l>up to preserve them for me.</l>
