					<l>Senate Chamber</l>
					<l>July 31, 1939</l>
					<l>My Dear Mother:</l>
					<l>We are approaching</l>
					<l>a vote on the</l>
					<l>Spending &amp; Lending Bill.</l>
					<l>We have been eminently</l>
					<l>successful in cutting</l>
					<l>about a billion and a</l>
					<l>half out of the bill.</l>
					<l>It is bad enough now</l>
					<l>but quite a bit better than</l>
					<l>it was.  Undoubtedly</l>
					<l>it will pass the Senate.</l>
				</lg>
			</p>
			<pb n='2'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>The House may refuse to</l>
					<l>proceed with it.  If so</l>
					<l>we will adjourn soon.</l>
					<l>Many legislators in both</l>
					<l>houses are leaving.  Some</l>
					<l>of them because they</l>
					<l>are exhausted and</l>
					<l>sick.  Thank God</l>
					<l>I am still all right.</l>
					<l>I shall watch my diet</l>
					<l>and exercise under</l>
					<l>this strain-</l>
					<l>Best love,</l>
					<l>Warren</l>
