My Dear Mother:
We are approaching
a vote on the
Spending & Lending Bill.
We have been eminently
successful in cutting
about a billion and a
half out of the bill.
It is bad enough now
but quite a bit better than
it was. Undoubtedly
it will pass the Senate.
The House may refuse to
proceed with it. If so
we will adjourn soon.
Many legislators in both
houses are leaving. Some
of them because they
are exhausted and
sick. Thank God
I am still all right.
I shall watch my diet
and exercise under
this strain-
