<l>There is a shock in store for those</l>

<l>Washington's "hot summer." There</l>
<l>hasn't been any summer yet.</l>
<l>Summer began at 2:40 a.m. today,</l>
<l>the almanac discloses, and the tem-</l>

<l>My Dear Mother:</l>

<l>There is a fillibuster running</l>
<l>in the Senate which hinders</l>
<l>progress- The silver block</l>
<l>is trying to force an</l>
<l>agreement out of the Treasury</l>
<l>Department to raise the</l>

<l>bad for our poor country.</l>
<l>We also have a fight on</l>
<l>over the appointment of</l>
<l>MacLeish for Librarian</l>
<l>of Congress. He is evidently</l>
<l>an intellectual gentleman</l>
<l>but has had no training</l>
