Summer Begins
At 2:40 A.M. with
Forecast of 90
There is a shock in store for those
who have been complaining of
Washington's "hot summer." There
hasn't been any summer yet.
Summer began at 2:40 a.m. today,
the almanac discloses, and the tem-
peratures of 94, 95 and 96 that have
bothered the District in the past
month were merely "the sweet
breath of spring."
Fair and slightly warmer is fore-
cast for today, with the temper-
ature approaching 90.

My Dear Mother:
We are restless in
this climate. Want to
go home!
There is a fillibuster running
in the Senate which hinders
progress- The silver block
is trying to force an
agreement out of the Treasury
Department to raise the
price the Gov't pays for
silver purchased from
mines in the N.S. To do
this they hold up the tax
bills and other measures
the Treasury is interested
especially in- It is too
bad for our poor country.
We also have a fight on
over the appointment of
MacLeish for Librarian
of Congress. He is evidently
an intellectual gentleman
but has had no training
or experience as librarian.
