<l>January 3, 1938</l>
<l>Dear Mother:</l>
<l>It seems a long time since I left, and I have not had a good oppor-</l>
<l>tunity to write you.</l>
<l>We went to Mr. Cary's in New York, and, of course, had a busy time</l>
<l>the two days we were there. Since arriving in Washington the pace</l>
<l>has been speedy, I will tell you.</l>
<l>We expect to hold a Republican Caucus this morning, at which we</l>
<l>will elect our leader, and then we will go into Session at twelve</l>
<l>o'clock.</l>
<l>Apparently there will not be much, if any, contest over confirma-</l>
<l>tion of the appointments of Messrs. Hopkins and Murphy.</l>
<l>We are both well and hope you are too.</l>
<l>Best love.</l>
<l>Mrs. Chauncey G. Austin,</l>
