Dear Mother:
I was delighted to have Senator McCarran come
to me, as he did yesterday morning on the
Floor of the Senate, and tell me that he had
received a letter from a lady in Vermont, and
that he was very happy about it; that it re-
minded him of his Mother.
Of course, I "got wise", and he finally told
me that you had written him.
Thank you so much for doing this; it will
undoubtedly strengthen the friendship which
had already sprung up between Senator McCarran
and myself.
