Saw Bert Corey few minutes. Called Edlunds up in morn. Wal called me up at noon, & we planned to go skiing. Just as we were about to start, Bob Platka came up - & joined us. We had one dandy time, tho it was raining a little - & awful sticky. We hiked - or pushed - out to "Sandy Hill" - in Holt's Woods. While there we tried the hill a few times - & then came home, & to Maj. - 2nd show. Visited with Wal on way home. PEACHY time! 2 WAL Thursday, Jan. 2, 1919 WAL MILD Was up to College at 9:15. Saw Osc. Went thru the regular process of enrolling. Was all thru at 10:30. Then to Frat. house. Went down with Dick Holdstock. The fellows were arrangeing their rooms. Herman & Harold Marsette together After dinner I went to P.O. to mail letter to "Cynic." Called Wal up before, & he & Guy plan to go to Maj. I walked down So. Union St. Met Dud & took him to Maj. Wal sat a couple rows behind us. Good show. Dud walked up to K. Σ. with me. I went in; visited, & played "500" with Harold Gates, Max Stuart & Gimp. Walked down with & after Sis - she went to Marj. Green's. Bed 10:45 - tired 3 Friday, Jan. 3, 1919 light SNOW Got up - by ALARM clock at 6:45. Went to classes all morn - or until 11:00. Then to Frat. house. Had good time with Bill Creaser & "Oswald." Bob Fowler was up in Old Mill, & I saw him. No drill today. We begin Mon. Saw Osc, Olden Paris, Dick Burns, Hugh & Wal - but only Osc - to speak to. They went skiing out behind Experiment Station. I went to Frat., then went up to Eng. class with the bunch. Called on Mr. Kehoe, but he so busy that I didn't bother him. War course from 4 to 5. Prof. Emerson sure is great! Dorothy Adams here for dinner. She & Henry went shopping - or furniture hunting. Studied after supper, & bed early. 4 WAL? Saturday, Jan. 4, 1919 Went to Philosophy - or cycology [psychology] class & Spanish - but no Professor yet. Called Osc up at noon. He & Wal to work all afternoon over to Phi. Delt. House. Osc said that maybe he & Wal would come up in eve. I went over to house. Helped around some. Saw Mack down to Y. few minutes. Then back to Frat. The Phi Delts were taking their stuff out of our barn. Saw both Osc & Wal - for half a minute. Over to the Frat after supper. Didn't go to the meeting for we were in quarantine. Called Wal up at supper time. He had to go to meeting at Phi Delt House. Home (me) at 10:30 - bed at 11:00. 5 W?L Sunday, Jan. 5, 1919 OSC Hung around the house all morn - reading. "Pady" Haigh called me up after dinner & told me to bring the FROSH posters over to the house - which I did. Visited over there a little - then went for a walk down So. Willard St. Osc was just coming from the back of his house as I got to Bay View St. Came back So. Union St. & up College. Met Geo. Howe. Had talk with him over fraternity matters. Read papers at 4:30. Studied after supper until 10:30. Bath & to bed. Thought PILES of Wal. OSC 6 OSC Monday, Jan. 6, 1919 WAL College, O. K. Bumped into Wal & Guy. They didn't have very much to say. Ec. 1 class very interesting. Attended 1st French class, too. At drill we formed companies. I'm in B as I was last yr. Rec'd peachy letter from Floyd Gantz, which I ans'd in afternoon. Saw "Mac" a little while. Freshmen posters are up. Frosh put them up last eve. Saw Wal few minutes after drill. Called him up before supper. May go skiing with him one of these days. Wal said he was going to a card party this eve. Me s-t-u-d-y WAL 7 Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Wal in Spanish class. Osc in it, too. Phsychology class interesting. Drill fine. Frank Lynch drilling our company, now. He's great. Dick Burns came over to house few minutes after that. Then me to Frat. Papa went to Syracuse for meeting. Henry & I went to Frat. after supper. Bill, Gimp & I studied - then we raffled stuff (chocolate) & got Mosher's goat & had peachy time. Dud considering buying Henry's drawing instruments. Studied ec. until 11:15. WAL 8 SOME snap & pep to drill this yr. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1919 WAL WAL WAL Classes O. K. Didn't see either Osc or Wal all morning, but Dick Burns was in my French Class. At drill I saw Osc a few moments, & Geo. Davenport wished to borrow my uni- form. I'm going to let him. Wal came up to us then, but I didn't say anything - neither did he - to me - but "silence is golden." Saw Guy a minute. Brought my old R.O.T.C. outfit - complete, down to Geo.'s house. Then to Frat. Joe Johnson only fellow there - so home. Brought my suit down to be fixed up; did errands. Oswald up for supper. Peachy visit with him. He & Henry went to Strong. Studied after supper. WAL 9 Thursday, Jan. 9, 1919 College - O. K. Called Wal up at noon. Plan to see him on Cor. of Main & Prospect at 4:00. We're going shopping. Went over to Frat. Visited with Bill. Drill good & snappy at noon. Telephone being installed at Frat. Met Wal at 4:00. We went downstreet. I got my shoes, O. K. 6.95. Wal looked for some, too, but didn't get any. Studied after supper. WAL 10 COLD 9° below Friday, Jan. 10, 1919 WAL College - O. K. Drill went swell. Saw Osc a minute. Hugh & Wal, too. English class O. K. Went to Frat. after. Had good visit with Herman Athens, Jenkins & Mosher. Then downstreet few minutes. Worked on my memory book quite awhile before supper. Frat. meeting after. Had dandy meeting. I suggested Bert Corey. Many of the fellows seemed to speak of him favorably. Hope he "gets by." Studied - from 10:00 ON. Wal went to B.H.S. vs. Spaulding basketball game. B.H.S. won. 11 Saturday, Jan. 11, 1919 College, O. K. Saw Wal in Spanish class. He had to go to board, & did finely. Called Wal up at noon. Plan to see him in middle of afternoon. Met Osc downstreet. I got bottle glue - then to Y. M. Had good visit with Mack. Saw Wal & Hugh. We did some err- ands. Went to Frat. after supper. Put the Frosh thru the 3rd degree. Had peachy time. We did a pile of crazy tricks, like last yr. Had glorious time. Sprague took charge. WAL 12 Sunday, Jan. 12, 1919 Stuck around house in fore- noon, & also STUCK stuff in my scrap & memory book. Called up Osc & Wal at noon. They're going to stay home this after. I went to Frat. John Shepard & Lorenzo Howe there. Hope we get them in the Frat. Most of the fellows over there. Had dandy time. Home at 4:30. Papa & I played pitch until nearly supper time. I got the stuff ready for the chicken "wiggle." Osc & Wal came up at 8:00. After they looked around - we played a game on the checker board. Then the "wiggle." They went home at 10:00. I studied after. 13 Monday, Jan. 13, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Osc at drill hour. In afternoon I went over to Frat. - but went over to U. V. M. greenhouse with Dick Burns. We tried filling bottles with illuminating gas & exploding it - but didn't succeed. Then we filled them with nitrogen, & succ- eeded in exploding one bottle. Saw Wal at 4:00 - but just to see him. Studied after suppe. Called Wal up. Want him to come up after classes tomorrow. WAL 14 Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1919 College, O. K. Saw Wal in Spanish class. He sat be- side me. Both of us were called on to read the Spanish; & we both did it successfully. Wal said he wasn't com- ing up this afternoon. Saw Osc at drill. He had some errands to do. Went over to Frat. Visited with fellows. Was lucky in Kent Mosher's "Raffle." Won 2 bars of chocolate. Then went downstreet. Met Harvey Foote. Had good visit with him. Hadn't seen him in a long time. Osc & Wal went to show in eve. studied 15 Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1919 U. V. M. O. K. Saw Osc at drill. Went downstreet after, & over to factory. Visited with Frank Robinson for quite a while. He explained the new nail- ing machine to me. Saw Frank Aldrich, too. Then, at about 4:45 I went into the office. Had good visit with Mr. Jacobs & Mr. Stanhope. Henry was out. Called Edlunds up at supper time. Talked with Osc. He & Wal have some entertaining to do over to their Frat. tomorrow night. I went over to Grassmount after supper. Gates, Chutter, Carbino & Davis did the entertaining. Good time. Went to Frat. until 9:00 - dancing. 16 OSC & WAL WARM Thursday, Jan. 16, 1919 College - O. K. Wal sat beside me in Spanish class. Drill O. K. Went to Frat. after that. Then to Howard Relief. Saw Miss Kingsland. Made arr- angements to take a danc- ing lesson next Tues. after- noon at 2:15. Then met [illegible]. We both got a haircut. To Frat. I was up to gym at 4:00 - to report for ass't. mgr. football job. Did errand downstreet. Saw Osc few minutes. Both he & Wal have to perform at the Phi Delt House every day. Studied after supper. Saw both Bob & Dud Platka downstreet. 17 Warm Friday, Jan. 17, 1919 College - O. K. Called Osc up at noon. He's going to be busy - "as is" Wal. To Frat. after class. Visited, & then went downstreet. Met Curt. Mosher. We went to Crystal, where he "stocked up." Saw Mr. Flint in O. C. Taylor's. We talked about Geo. Dick Mills sick with "Flu." Saw Dud down- street, He got paddled SOME last eve. at his frat. Called Wal up at supper time. He & I plan to "get together" tomorrow afternoon. Frat. "real" initiation after supper. 7 fellows put thru. Carbino is wearing my pin. Bed at 11:00. WAL 18 Saturday, Jan. 18, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Osc & Wal in Spanish class. Reprim- anded Wal & Guy for not wearing cits. clothes today. Articles in "Cynic" half put in & jumbled up any way. Wal came up at 3:00. We visited for an hr. & a half. Then I had to go after the mare, who was being shod. Wal went home. I'm invited to supper for tomorrow eve. Dick Mills very sick. Wal & Osc to get paddled this eve. They have to furnish some of the "feed" for after- wards. Osc - Wal. 19 Sunday, Jan. 19, 1919 Got up at 10:00. Read papers in morn. After dinner I took a bath & shave. Then played a short game of pitch. Rode in car down to Edlund's. Osc, Wal, Guy & Hugh were there. Hugh was up showing his dress suit; Guy was doing math. Osc & I fooled some, then Wal & I visited. Good supper, after which Wal played the Victrola a little. Then Osc, Wal & I looked over motion picture magazines, & Oread. Wal & I fooled a little. Both of the fellows had a dandy time last eve. when they were initiated Phi Delt. OSC & WAL 20 4:00 - Gym - ass't mgr. football - tryout. Monday, Jan. 20, 1919 College - O. K. After drill I did up a little Eng. work, in writing reports, etc. Then took Mother for a ride. Sleighing good & weather better. Saw Wal at drill & rec'd a peachy smile. Frat. at 5:00. Then down- street on errand. Joe John- son around again. Osc & Wal to have more frat. in- itiation this eve. Called Edlunds up & talked with Osc. "500" after supper. Henry & I won from Papa & Mother. I studied after that. Thought Piles of Osc & Wal today. OSC & WAL - 21 2:15 - dancing lesson with Miss Kingsland. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1919 LADD FAIR College, O. K. Saw both Osc & Wal in Spanish Class. After drill I took a dancing lesson from Miss Kingsland. Then to Frat. Louie Nelson was the guy who pulled my "Cynic" articles all to pieces. We had quite a chat. Called on Mr. Bailey & acting Pres. Perkins. Got just a little "dope" for Cynic. Took horse out for hr. after that. Spraigue up for supper. Went to Frat. for talking over Kake Walk stunt. Visited quite a bit with Davis. Hope to see him again SOON! Am going to have him up for a "wiggle" soon!!! 22 THAW Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1919 Dick Mills died at 4:00 this morn. I heard about it over to College at the close of my 1st hr. Dick Holdstock & I went over. Saw Helen & Bruce's Mother. Dick was on the couch in the front room. Went back to classes. Drill. Awful wet. Saw Wal a minute. Also Gates. Frat. after that. Visited with Sprague & Kert Mosher. Studied after supper. Basketball game to gym at 8:15. '21 won from '20 '19 won from '22. All close & good games. To frat. Visited with Gimp. Then home at 10:00. Studied for an hr., then bed. 23 THAW Thursday, Jan. 23, 1919 College went O. K. Saw Wal & Osc in Spanish class, but not to speak to. Saw them at drill hr., too. After that I went to Frat. Met Jenkins' brother, who went across & had seen action. Had quite a visit with both of them. Then Marsette & I went downstreet. I saw Geo. Davenport a min. The snow has nearly left us. Saw WM. Davis up to college several times. Hope to see him tomorrow eve., & perhaps make some arrangements for Sunday, or Saturday. Studied after supper. OSC & WAL WM. DAVIS 24 Friday, Jan. 24, 1919 College went O. K. Was down to Dick Holdstock's at 1:15. We visited "Paiddy" Haigh & Stan Converse came up at about 2:00. We went up to Mill's at about 2:15. There were very many flowers, and a good sized crowd at the house. The funeral services were short. They had an auto- mobile hearse, and all autos for the mourners. Frat. meeting after supper. Saw "Billiey" Davis & Carbino. We had a dandy time doing card tricks. Studied. 25 Saturday, Jan. 25, 1919 College, O. K. Went to Frat. after dinner. Card from Mr. Clark. Took few photos of fellows at Frat. Then down to Mrs. Ladd's, on Buel St. Carbino was in bed, & Davis was shaving. "Billy" & I went to Strong. Billy had seen the show once. He told me how it was to "come out." He treated me to a milk shake. Wrote Floyd after supper. Downstreet. Then to Frat. Not many fellows there. Home at 10:00. Bath & to bed. DAVIS OSC & WAL 26 Sunday, Jan. 26, 1919 Shaved; read & studied in morn. To Frat. after dinner. "Billy" Davis was there. We visited for quite a while. Listen- ed to Victrola music. Then. at about 4:00, Bill Davis & I went for a walk out towards Holt's. Came back to my room, & Bill & I visited & had a good time - I walked down quite a ways with him. To White's after supper. Stub there. We made a "wiggle." Wrote B. U. C. Got home at 10:30. To bed. Bill DAVIS. 27 Monday, Jan. 27, 1919 College - O. K. Frank didn't show up, so I did the chores about the house before 1st hr. Saw Dick Burns. A little quiz. in Ec. 1. Not hard, tho. Saw Billy Davis at drill. Didn't see Osc or Wal, tho. To Lib. after that. Curt. Mosher & I did Eng. work. Then I bought "Hindoustan" & "N' Every- thing" for Victrola. To Frat. Saw Billy. I won a couple games of chess, by sheer luck. Then we went downstreet. I went to P.O. Beane went with me. I treated to sundaes. Billy plans to come up Wed. if there aren't any U.V.M. doings in eve. Bath & bed fairly early OSC-WAL- BILLY. 28 OSC & WAL Billy Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1919 DAVIS Carbino College - O. K. Saw Wal in Spanish Class. Didn't get a chance to say very much, tho. Didn't see Billy Davis, at all. Drill, O. K. Home to study after that. After supper - to Frat. Olden Paris was walking up Pearl St. in the middle of the car track, carrying an old broom & yelling, "I'm full of air!" Another fellow was yelling: "I'm hungry; I want my bottle!" I dropped in to see "Billy" & Carbino. Both are coming up at about 7:30 tomorrow. Osc & Wall, too. Hooray! 29 Billy Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1919 College - O. K. Saw "Billy" & Carbino few minutes. Carbino said he'd be unable to come up this eve. because of stunt rehearsal. Wal called up in eve. & said that he & Osc wouldn't be up, too. Miss Vera Purington called me up to do "Cynic" work this noon during drill hr. Got excused from drill - & did same. Class at 4:00 - again. "Billy" came up at 8:00. Went to basketball game. Frosh & Sophs both won. "Billy" came over & I gave him my old chem. quiz. papers. Walked down to Willard St. with him. Had good time. Studied until after 12:00 - 30 Thursday, Jan. 30, 1919 College, O. K. Saw Osc & Wal in Span. class, but didn't get a chance to any more than say "hello." Bump- ed into Billy Davis just as I was going out. Visited with him for quite awhile. Saw Carbino at drill hr. We had quite a chat, too. Went to library after drill. Studied until 4:00 - then class meeting. Phil Brannon elected Pres. We left before the ballots had been counted for the other offices. Chutter was elected Pres. of the freshman class by a big majority. Saw Billy & Carbino after. They told me about the election. "Billy" Frat meeting until 9:30. "Billy" sat beside me, & we had some sport. 31 Friday, Jan. 31, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Billy once in morn. He was getting his dance order filled. Also saw Carbino. He was "fixed" O. K. Saw Carbino during drill hr., too. Guy N. was our cpl. He had to drill us some. Had dandy time. While going to Eng. class I bumped into Billy & Osc. Had visit with both of them. To library after. Then, at 4:00, Prof. Emerson gave his 2 hr. quiz. Believe me, it was SOME quiz, tho I believe I "got by" O. K. Studied after supper. Bed early. Billy 32 Billy Billy Billy Saturday, Feb. 1, 1919 College O. K. Didn't happen to see Billy this morn, but Wal sat beside me in Spanish. Didn't get a chance to say very much, tho. He did most of his talking with Guy. Saw Osc, too. Fixed up my insurance business at noon. Then went down to Billy's. He wasn't in, but he came in in a short time. We visited. Then downstreet. Billy did some errands, as did I. We met some of the frat. fellows. Had a REAL pleasant eve with - or afternoon with Billy. Frat. meeting after supper. Went on errand & dropped in to see Billy. Billy 33 Billy Sunday, Feb. 2, 1919 WAL Stuck around house in morn, reading. Went to Sunday School, & enjoyed every minute of it. Took Mother for a ride behind the mare for about an hr. & a half. It was fine out. Then went to Frat. Saw Gimp, Max Stuart & Harold Gates. We visited & had one swell time. Then home. Called up Wal & had a dandy visit with him. He was out all night last night. Will see him SOME this next wk. - betwixt & between, for I sure WILL be busy. Am planning to have Billy up for supper Tues. Then to Frosh reception 34 Monday, Feb. 3, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Dud & Dick Burns after drill. Went downstreet with Dud. Met Nelson. We had quite a visit - & Louis gave me some work to do for the Cynic. Prof. Emerson's Class at 4:00. Saw Billy few minutes. Auto ride down the Shelburne Rd. a ways & home. 1st Smoker in eve. Up to gymnasium. Dandy time. Prof. Burns spoke to us regarding athletics. Was awful tired after, so went directly to bed. Saw Osc & Wal up there. 35 Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1919 College, O.K. Didn't happen to see Billy at all - but saw Wal a minute in Spanish Class. Didn't get a chance to do much visiting, tho. Saw Bill Creaser few minutes in afternoon. Hope he comes back to college. Did Cynic work after that. Then, at 5:30 Billy came up & we visited. I let him look over my memo books. I shaved & dressed for Frosh Reception. Then Billy & I went downstairs & played Victrola. Had good time. Then to gym. PEACHY reception in all ways. Billy 36 Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1919 College, O. K. Saw Billy a moment at noon. Did a little Cynic work. Then to Frat. Carbino there. We cleaned up the house a little - getting ready for dance. I was told that I was to be a cpl. in R.O.T.C. Studied after supper. 37 Thursday, Feb. 6, 1919 College, O. K. Saw Wal in Span. class. Didn't sit beside him. After drill I went to library & studied. Saw Smalley when leaving. Also saw Wal. Visited with him a few minutes. Then to Frat. Cleaned up a couple rooms, lugged furniture, etc. Carbino there. Had good time. Saw Billy at drill. We had a dandy visit. To Frat. after supper. Made out our dance orders. Carbino & I set to work waxing floors, Had good time with him - but he didn't give me a dance. Got one with Billy, tho. Peachy letter from Floyd! 38 Friday, Feb. 7, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Wal a few minutes in morn. He said that he was "growing smaller", for I didn't happen to see him at 1st. Saw Carbino & Billy a few minutes. The dance I arranged with him is O.K. Saw him at noon about it. Asked Wal over for awhile at noon. He said he had a book to read (novel) - so didn't come. Worked over to Frat. after Eng. class. Car- bino was there, too. Billy said he was AWFUL busy. Took Jane mcIntosh to the dance. Guess I got away with it O. K. Had great time. Home at 2:30! ! ! ! ! 39 Saturday, Feb. 8, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Wal in Span. class. Most of the class didn't have the lesson prepared. It was SOME farce. Prof. Gabrel didn't like it a little bit, for I met him on the st. in the afternoon. Did a good job for "scrub mgr." of football. Sure DO hope to get the job! Met "Rabbitt" Carbino downstreet. To show. Lunch - then to Frat. Had PEACHY time - especially with Billy. Banquet - with every thing - lasted until about 2:30. Had a grand time. BILLY 40 Sunday, Feb. 9, 1919 Got up at 10:30. "Fluffy" had a little headache. Read in forenoon. Called Wal up at noon. He to be up at 4:00. I read in after. Wal up at 4:00. We visited; talked about jobs; argued (MOSTLY). I told Wal it was his hobby to always choose the opposite side from anybody. We also talked Frats. Called Billy up. He had some work to do, so couldn't come up. Wish he could have. Helen Mills up. We made popcorn & had a swell time. I took her home. Thought of Floyd. Wal & I had N.Y. argument - per as usual - with same results. BILLY 41 Monday, Feb. 10, 1919 College - O. K. Sat beside Dick Burns in French. We had a good time before class. Saw Osc, Wal, Guy & Carbino at drill hr. Also Billy. We had a dandy chat; Billy & I. After drill I met Dick Burns & we went up in the Sci Hall to his Father's office. We danced a little; & had a good time generally. Didn't get a chance to say anything to Wal. He was the only one that didn't say "hello" when he came in to drill. To Frat. Visited with Kert Mosher & Dave Salmond. Great time. Saw "Rabbit". Studied after supper. Billy 42 Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Billy & Rabbitt; Wal, too. In after- noon after drill I went downstreet & tried to sell a few Kake Walk vouchers. No luck. Went to Winooski. Same there. Left the tickets in Richard's Pharmacy, & made arrangements at Free Press & Daily News for ad. Saw "Rabbitt" quite a bit. Sure DO like him a pile. Studied after supper. Dancing lesson with Dick Burns at Vaukers Roof at 8:15. Saw Wal & Osc. They to Frosh meeting at Episc. Church. Billy 43 Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Wal a minute - Osc, too. Also saw Billy & Rabbitt. Did a little "Cynic" work in afternoon. Also studied. To basketball game up to gym in eve. SOME game. Wouldn't have missed it for anything. Extra 5 min. had to be played. Frosh won - 25 to 21. A peachy game. Saw Billy there. Sure WAS glad to see him, too. Studied until 12:00 Billy - 44 Thursday, Feb. 13, 1919 Everything O. K. up on the hill. Hunted for Billy at noon. Didn't see him. Wal not to Span. class. Osc there, tho. Bought tickets for "T for 3" for Billy & me - at Strong Sat. Saw Rabbitt at library. Went to Frat. Visited with Dave Salmond & Kert Mosher.. Called on Billy after supper. We went down to Chiott's rink on the lake. The skating was great. Had a peachy time with Billy Bed at 11:00 45 Friday, Feb. 14, 1919 College - O. K. Saw Billy at drill hour. Had quite a visit with him. He invited me down to his house for tomorrow after- noon. Saw "Rabbitt", too. Saw Osc & Wal, but not to speak to. Studied psychology until 12:00 - from 8:30. Kenny Clement up for supper. Visited with him until 8:30. Then Henry took chg. of him. Billy - 46 Billy Saturday, Feb. 15, 1919 Hit the "Gifford" test O. K. Anyhow - I guess I "shot a good line," as they say. To Billy's after dinner We visited there at his house for quite awhile; then to Maj. I came home after that. Took Mother for a ride.
