- Description: November 3, 1942. This view of Staniford Road shows the pavement one month after the Soil-Cement had been completed. Traffic had been allowed to use the pavement for the entire period. The intersection in the foreground was constructed of asphalt plant mix. The Soil-Cement pavement was given a light tack coat of asphalt emulsion as a protection coat for the winter. The University of Vermont green is to the left. Old Mill is center right and to the extreme right is the Gymnasium (later to become Royall Tyler Theatre). Elm trees line the street.

This picture shows the first application of #7 Asphalt being applied at the rate of 9/10 gal. per sq. yd. with the City owned Kinney Distributor and mixed with spring-tooth farm harrow.
