- Description: 1946 photo of the Strong Building, home of Strong Hardware Co. and the Strong Theatre, as well as a drugstore and ice cream shop. Date on the building is 1902. The marquee reads: Abbott and Costello: "The Naughty Nineties," with Alan Curtis. (The movie came out in 1945.) The building was destroyed by arson in 1970, and rubble at the site was used to help build the Burlington bike path.

This view shows the form work for the south wall of the concrete foundation walls being constructed by Street Department forces for resetting of the metal hangar just south of the wooden hangar. A contract was awarded to the Street Department to build these foundation walls including all materials, labor and equipment for the sum of $1500.00 Several workmen and automobiles seen on site.

Strong Theatre, Post Office and mansard roofed building (167-169 Main) that once was a place of worship for the First Baptist Church on the left. Retail businesses on the right. Automobiles parked on both sides of the street. In the far right foreground a man leans against a street light pole.
